COMING SOON - A PROFESSIONAL VIDEO PRODUCTION OF THE EVENT

Theatre in the Park brought together 7 young people from Jabula Combined High School in Lidgetton and 3 emerging artists from the University of Kwazulu Natal. This group spent 3 months together immersed in a Living University intensive course which included performing arts training, Iyengar yoga, meditation, martial arts and socio-political studies. This training culminated in a performance at the Capture site in December, which showcased their time and learning together. The performance is also an exhibition of what is possible when the ingredients of imagination, focus, commitment, discipline and play are combined to tell the stories that make sense of our present and can shape our future. This kind of experiential training was completely new for our participants - our scholars had never been to a theatre or performed in a production. The Living University embarked on this journey of Theatre in the Park to dismantle the structural barriers that deny opportunities to these young people, to reimagine what human potential can be, to express and inspire that potential toward creating a better world for all. Theatre in the Park created the conditions for this kind of creative potential to flourish so that we might all be able to live truly artistic lives…with Freedom To…not just freedom from!

The ability to be moved must never be underestimated
